Recovery Stories: Kathryn's ME recovery story
"Before taking the LP training I could do about one main thing every other day, using the day in-between to recover.
I was struggling to attend college and therefore make friends at college. I heard about LP through AYME and thought I'd give it a go!
It seemed all very hush hush about what actually happened when 'in the room' so I didn't really know what to expect!
It was very hard, and after the first session I got myself in a bit of a state cos it just seemed like an impossible task, I'm not one to quit though so I used the process on those feelings and it helped alot.
My second session was very early the next morning so I hadn't had alot of time to really try the process out but after my second session I walked into the town and got the bus back up the hill and then the next day I went to the cinema in the evening, walking down the hill and then back up again! (just to point out I was doing the process the whole time!) The main thing I found that changed was being able to do things and still feel ok the next day, and to have confidence that I wasn't going to crash.
I am now at college full time (16hrs a week) I plan things in advance knowing that I won't have to cancel, I'm learning to drive and doing double lessons which are 1hr30mins, going shopping with friends, meeting up with people outside of college (something which was a no no before) more active at church, keeping up with college work and planning to go to university next September!
I also went to stay with my sister at university for the first time this summer, walked everywhere, my feet hurt but I didn't feel tired at all. I got the train down there by myself which is something I never would have considered before because I used to have huge anxiety too! Been up to Newcastle to visit my grandparents for the first time in nine years as well - it was brilliant!
Basically I'm just looking forward and getting back into living life to the full!"
